10 SEPTEMBER 2022 // 14:00 - 20:00 // OLD TOWN //
"This year's Celje 2022 Promenade of Tastes will feature two winegrowers from the Šmarje pri Jelšah municipality: the Vreže winegrowing estate and the Planinšek winegrowing estate.
VITICULTURE
Jani Vreže works the farm at Bobovo with his father Franco, who still ploughs a large part of the vineyards above the homestead at a beautiful viewpoint above Šmarje pri Jelšah. He also cultivates a large part of the vineyards in the neighbouring wine-growing area of Sladka Gora.
Jani represents the third generation on the Vrežet farm. Viticulture has a long tradition on the farm, as Jani's grandfather bought a building with a cellar at the top of Bobovy from an innkeeper a hundred years ago.
The wine bar serves small groups of guests, where the traditional black bread oven still smells of homemade bread.
The cellar contains sauvignon, riesling, riesling and chardonnay.
Vrežet's wines are renowned far and wide for their quality, having received numerous awards at various competitions.
Jani is most proud of the gold medal he won at the Ljubljana Wine Fair for his chardonnay.
Jani Vreže has been the driving force behind the Šmarje pri Jelšah Winegrowers' Association for many years, which brings together more than 190 members in the Šmarje Wine Cellar. He is responsible for the fact that Šmarje pri Jelšah is home to the descendant of the oldest vine in the world.
VITICULTURE PLANINŠEK
The Planinšek family's wine-growing tradition dates back to the 19th century, as the winery at Pečice bears the venerable date of 1872, where the family vineyard was planted. A smaller vineyard is located next to the homestead in Vršna vas.
The vineyard manager, Mirko Planinšek, has added many new varieties to the old traditional varieties in the vineyard.
Leading varieties in the vineyard include Las Riesling, Sauvignon, Traminac, Muscat and others, while red wine lovers can also enjoy a Blue Franc.
Practically the whole family is involved in the work in the home vineyard, where many of the successes are shared over a meal in the local gorce, where local cuisine is also served. After the harvest, when the barrels and tanks are filled, the young wines are matured into fine wines through careful cellaring and tending.
Mirko Planinšek has received many awards for his fine wines - his wines have been selected several times as the Mayor's Wine of the Municipality of Šmarje pri Jelšah.
We would be delighted if you could taste wines from our beautiful places - at the Promenade of Tastes in Celje!"
