Dominican Monastery Ptuj

Saturday 7 May 2022

13:00 - 20:00

On Monday 25 April, we held a press conference in the Sunny Park in front of the Dominican Monastery to present the Salon Sauvignon 2022 international festival.

In its eighth edition, the festival returns to its old home: the charismatic Dominican Monastery of Ptuj. It is hosted by Ptuj, a picturesque medieval town surrounded by vineyards.

Over sixty winemakers and other top exhibitors from Slovenia and the surrounding area will present themselves in the Gothic cloisters. Visitors will be able to enjoy wines within a mile of the restored art historical monument and its gardens; the south courtyard, which served as the herb garden for the Dominican Brothers, and the vast Sunny Park, which this time is entirely dedicated to festival events.

The Sunny Park will host the exhibition Stories of Chairs, created by Ptuj high school students under the mentorship of Dušan Fišer, an academic painter. There will also be cuisine - this time by Gostilna Ribič and Zavod Na - prepared for both omnivores and vegans.

This year's Master Class will also take place in the Sun Park.

The South Courtyard will be the venue for the photographic exhibition Wine and Art, part of the eponymous project supported by European and Ministry of Culture funds.

Right here, in the intimate courtyard overlooking the Drava River, will be the final act of this year's festival - a concert by the exceptional singer Ditka.

Nuška GAJŠEK, Mayor of the Municipality of Ptuj: "Salon Sauvignon puts Ptuj on the map of important wine towns and opens the door to a rich and varied Ptuj festival summer. It is an event not to be missed by Ptuj citizens and wine lovers from Slovenia and beyond."

Slavko DOBNIK, director of the Salon Sauvignon festival: "In a relaxed atmosphere, we can meet again in Slovenia's oldest town and taste over a hundred Sauvignons from Slovenia and neighbouring areas, which are among the world's top.

This is also demonstrated through the Festival's evaluation and Master Class, where the ten best-rated Festival sauvignons and cabernet sauvignons are put up against the world's best. Mercator, Slovenia's largest retailer, with whom we have partnered, will place the three best-rated festival sauvignons on the shelves of its largest retailers and give them a special highlight in June."

Staša BIZJAK, festival manager and chair of the festival's evaluation organising committee: "This year's evaluation, chaired by Andrej REBERNIŠEK, Director of KGZ Zavod Ptuj, will attend Dr Klemen LISJAK, a world-class and internationally renowned expert on this very variety. Dr. Lisjak is also the holder of this year's Master Class. This is an innovation that we want to build on in the coming years with world-renowned wine experts and writers. We want the Master Class holder to get to know the Festival's sauvignons and cabernet sauvignons as a member of the judging panel.

Dr. Klemen LISJAK will join the Master Class Dr Guillaume Antalick and Dr. Erich Leitner, renowned international wine experts. We are therefore looking forward to an in-depth and lively debate on the topic of sauvignons and cabernet sauvignons in our country and in the world."

Both the festival judges and the Master Class participants will enjoy the wines from the top-quality tasting glasses of Armonia Steklarna Rogaška.

Mitja ŠKRABL, Head of Retail at Steklarna Rogaška: "We have recognised Salon Sauvignon as a prestigious and creatively conceived festival with which we want to develop the story of prestige together. We are proud to present the Sauvignon de Sauvignon as a project that we want to be a part of, not only on the day of the main event, but throughout the year. Because fine wines require a fine glass - and at Salon Sauvignon, we bring that to the table."

The festival is sponsored by the Municipality of Ptuj. It is sponsored by the prestigious partners Mercator, Perutnina Ptuj, Messer Slovenija, Steklarna Rogaška, Vargas-Al Kidričevo, and Agro Zavarovalnica. The media sponsor is the media house Večer.
