FAMILIJA - ON THE PROMENADE OF TASTES PTUJ 2022 // 3 SEPTEMBER 14:00 - 19:00 // UPPER COURTYARD OF PTUJ CASTLE //

"Three generations of the Brodnjak family started a few years ago to develop a livestock and wine-growing estate in the Halos, which, in addition to producing, processing and marketing its own produce, will become a focal point in the eastern part of the Halos for the promotion and sale of high-quality produce from the surrounding farms and establishments.

Father Stanislav and sons Tine and Blaž Brodnjak, as career managers with a background in commerce, hospitality and finance, decided to support the development of the environment they come from. Their partners are by their side. Their vision will be continued by their granddaughter Blažka as a student of the International Wine Business programme in Krems, Austria.

Our aim is to develop an ecosystem of quality, connected providers that will enable as many homestays as possible to survive and develop, turning a pristine and demographically deprived area into a new boutique culinary and tourist destination.

The estate is currently cultivated on approximately 18 hectares, with 10 hectares of terraced vineyards in the absolute vineyard position of Veliki vrh, from where the finest quality wines of Halos have always come. The vineyard is dominated by lapis soils in a single piece at an altitude of between 200 and 280 metres above sea level. In the south-east-south-west position, the grapes ripen to full phenolic ripeness, with clearly defined varietal characteristics, and the wines are complex and with a clearly defined terroir.

The varietal selection includes Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris for still wines, Pinot Blanc and native Ranfol for white (blanc de blanc) sparkling wines, and Blue Franc and Pinot Noir for rosé sparkling wines.

We plan to build a new winery near the vineyards later this year.

The Veseliča bungalow reigns over the vineyards, and its location and monumentality (more than 1,100 square metres on four floors) make it a true jewel of rural building heritage. In addition to the remarkable cellar, it also houses a large wooden press from 1869, which has been protected as a monument.

The building is set in a broader context on a salt hill with the pilgrimage church of St Anne, followed towards the river Drava by Borl Castle. The family plans to renovate the entire building, which will house tasting and sales areas, a quality restaurant and, in the cellar, the foreseeable maturing of sparkling wines and quality charcuterie, as the family, in addition to cultivating the vineyards and growing grapes and wine, also raises a 15-head herd of Scottish Highland cattle in a purely organic way.

In the third phase, the family will work to create high-quality accommodation and wellness facilities on the northern terraces, overlooking the Church of St Anne and the restored vineyard below. In the immediate vicinity, the family plans to build an attractive pottery workshop and sales area.

After several years of preparation and partial restoration of the vineyards, the family has protected its own brand FAMILIJA - also for the products of artistic and applied crafts, which will be produced on the estate in traditional and modern versions.

With the 2020 vintage, we bottled around 6,000 bottles of our first wine, which we named Intro as a newcomer. The sauvignon blanc variety perfectly reflects the quality of the growing area and has been the flagship of Halkalk wine growers in recent years. The Intro is exceptionally pure, juicy and drinkable, with elegant fruit aromas and beautifully integrated wood ageing.

We invite you to taste it - at the Ptuj 2022 Promenade of Tastes at Ptuj Castle, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the vineyards of the Halo region."
